Eindhoven

Eindhoven is undoubtedly the largest city I ever lived in. It actually consists of a few villages grown together, and as far as I know at least 140000 people are living here now. Eindhoven is a city in the province Noord-Brabant, but is not the capital (which is 's-Hertogenbosch).

The biggest industry in Eindhoven is undoubtedly Philips, which started a long time with making lights. Traffic lights are therefore abundant in Eindhoven, but that is another story. The TU-Eindhoven is also here because of the growing interest of Philips in engineers (even though Philips itself moved to Amsterdam, the research center is still in Eindhoven.

Eindhoven can be described as a `gray' city. It is relatively new, and no real history can be found. It is, however, not a boring city: there are many places where you can go to and enjoy yourself, for example Plaza Futura, a cinema and theatre in one. After living in Rochester for some time, I discovered that Eindhoven and Rochester have many things in common.

There is also a digital side to Eindhoven, called the `Digitale Stad Eindhoven'. Maybe it is a nice idea to look around there.
